The Pan-American Exposition was a World's Fair held in Buffalo, New York,
from May 1 through November 2, 1901. A beautiful series of bi-color engraved stamps were
issued on May 1, 1901, in six denominations ranging from 1c to 10c, by the US Post Office
to commemorate the Pan Am Exposition.

Today I received this 1902 registered cover mailed from San Francisco to Saginaw Michigan.
It has the 1c, 2c, and 4c Pan American Exposition stamps neatly applied to a Columbian 5c
stamped envelope. The 4c shows an electric automobile in Washington.

It is hard to imagine someone who was not stamp collector or dealer creating this cover.
A little bit of googling revealed that E. F. Gambs was a stamp dealer in San Francisco.

A close-up of the stamps shows they are a little toned around the perfs.

Anyone ever tried to remove a little toning from stamps on a cover?
My inclination is to not try it.

Hello everyone.....

The image below shows Peruvian stamps #120, 121, 123, & 125 overprinted and with grills....#125 has a double overprint. #120 has no gum but the rest all have full gum, all never hinged. The grills look extremely similar to the grills on early US stamps. Book value is about 40 cents each.

If you would like one of these...FREE...to see for yourself exactly what grills on stamps look like........email your address to me.....I have 23 of these stamps, 8 with no gum. I'll start by giving the first respondents a sample with full gum until they are gone working my way through to the ones with no gum.

I have three duplicate copies of Mekeel's and Stamps weekly magazine, Jan 4, 11, & 18, 08. Anyone interested in a FREE sample issue ?

No way, no-how, never! I could look at covers 24x7.
All kinds, All time periods, All countries.

Eating pie and looking at covers. Doesn't get any better than that.

Keep 'em coming!

Tom says he hasn't seen enough covers yet. Let's keep him busy!
Post your covers here! You heard what he said, all kinds, all time
periods, all countries.

Covers To Eat Pie By!

What SPACE TRAVEL stamps do you have?

Here is one of mine from one of my favorite movie "Star Wars".
This is the Millennium Falcon. The starship of legendary Commander Han Solo . He and his trusty first mate, Chewbacca, flew the starship in the "Star Wars" movies.

This US 41 cent stamp was issued 5/25/2007

THANKS FOR ANY ADDITIONS YOU WISH TO SHARE!

With the info given by t360, modern_who, and amitvyas03 on precancels, I have been doing some research on the subject. That is a great site precancels.com and info given by Precancel Stamp Society was very helpful.
I have alot of precancels from that last lot of stamps I got off of eBay. Was wondering if anyone else collects them ?

I always learn something new here everyday! Thanks everyone!

These arrived today from Australia. Wow, what a year for you guys and gals! (stamps 2000)

Thanks!

Isn't this a lovely pile of stamps? Mint, never-hinged (MNH) Canadian beauties from 1926-27. Don't you love the near-perfect centering of that 20-center on top, Scott 148, cataloging at $32.50 in 2004? Look at the immaculate gum on the reverse and drool!

Well, unfortunately, humidity got the best of these somewhere along the way and they are, barring drastic and somewhat damaging action, stuck together forever.

In lieu of flowers...

Don't know which country issued a stamp, or if it's a Cinderella item or a real stamp of another kind?

Post it here and get help from forum members, many of whom have been around this hobby a good many years.

I've got some stuff that stumps me, and will fire up the scanner and post it here, too. Hope to get some help from members with them.

Remember -- that we not only want them, but need them, goes without saying -- but like everyone else who uses the phrase I'm saying it anyway!

Lurkers welcome! Just register and show us what you've got!

I am starting a thread about space covers. I am going to show many autographed space covers from my various collections. The offer still stands if anybody wants to see a copy of the Space Unit journal, email me your mailing address. Now I am going to start by showing 2 space covers from the Apollo days.
The first cover is from the Apollo-15 launch autographed by the KSC Director of Launch Operations, Walt Kapryan.

The last cover is from the Apollo-17 launch autographed by the KSC Chief Test Supervisor, Bill Schick.

Any comments and suggestions welcomed.

I'm not sure of the reason, but there is something I just love about Black and White stamps. Maybe it's a throwback thing to the Penny Black. I'll show you mine, if you show me yours. LOL

Design:
These galloping horses are from a selection of paintings by the famous Chinese painter Xu Beihong (1895-1953). Xu Beihong, born in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, began to learn painting from his father when he was nine. At about 13, he was already making a living by selling his pictures. He became a teacher at Beijing University's Institute of Painting in 1917 and went to France in 1919 to study painting. Xu was a painter of great attainment in sketches and portraits, good at capturing the character and mood of the subjects by realistic methods. He depicted mainly historical stories in his early works, but switched to realistic subjects later. His subjects also included flowers and birds, landscapes and animals, all painted in a concise and vigorous style. He was specially skilled in painting horses in a bold and unrestrained style. In the pictures on the stamp we can see his horses coming to life. After the founding of New China, Xu Beihong became president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and chairman of the Union of Chinese Artists. After his death on September 23, 1953, the Chinese government built the Xu Beihong Memorial Hall in memory of his contributions to art. This set of souvenir sheet depicts six galloping horses selected from paintings by Xu Beihong. This painting was created in 1942, 95 cm. long, 181 cm. wide. Around the design is flanked by silver gray laciness, which enhances Chinese painting 's style and makes the design elegant.

Hey everyone

Some of you have mentioned that you wanted me to get the Canadian Braille stamp when it comes out. They will also have covers. When I get home I'll post pictures.

Anyhow anyone wanting one just let me know I can either mail them to you on an envelope if you want it used or send it unused or even send a cover if that is what you wish. I will send the stamps free of charge because all of you have been so good to me and do the same for the covers if they are not too pricey.

Dianne

With an estimated 1.5 different stamps having been issued, how high can we count with stamp examples? The idea is to follow the numbers, in sequence, and see how far this can go before we're stumped. Stamps from any nation can be posted, and the monetary unit doesn't matter, just the number the stamp shows. Here is the U.S. 1-cent Lincoln, Scott 1113 of 1959. to start things off.

Next, we need a 2, 3, 4 etc.

Let's see how high this thing can go!

This is the first of 8 pages of a 3 cent cancel study I am going to be asking folks to help me out with a little bit. I am trying to organize and get a handle on the philatelic history and details of these stamps; ultimately I am going to try to place a value on this particular part of the collection.

The Mrs, told me to get my act together, clean up my stamproom, or else Monday morning, she will be renting a dumpster, and throwing everything out.

Started on the desk, I have made up 5 packets of German stamps, each packet contains 20 stamps, no dupes. Mostly modern, and used.

They are free to the first 5 collectors, who respond to this post, and emails me their name and home address, via Stamp community.

Postage is at my expense also.

Go for it

I thought I might start a thread, similar to the one we did on CCF a while ago. I will post a picture of a stamp and hopefully someone will post a stamp to follow it and so on.

The stamp that follows must be either the same country, same year, same theme or same value (i.e if I am posting $1.30, then any stamp with similar numbers is ok regardless of the denomination).

Hong Kong 1967 SG#244 AUD$25 Mint

So to follow this stamp you must post another HK stamp, a 1967 stamp, a telecommunications stamp or numbers of 130. Come on be in it, we can keep this going forever. LOL

After that you must match what ever the last person has posted, not my first post.
Steve

A few stamps of Indian States from my collection...

Feudatory States (which issued their own stamps)

Convention States (these had an agreement with the British government regarding mail and used contemporaneous stamps of India overprinted with the state's name)
