One of my boyhood favorites: Black Crowned Cranes ( Balearica pavonina), designed by H. Subert, engraved by Georges Bétemps, and issued by Niger on July 25, 1960, Scott No. 92, SG No. 101. - nethryk |

Nells - Glad you liked that Niger stamp, too. It has a great design, splendid engraving, and particularly vivid yet complementary colors. Here are images of the five new birds of prey stamps, designed by Swiss-born American illustrator Robert Giusti (1937- ), printed by photogravure, and issued by the USA on January 20, 2012, no Scott numbers yet assigned. - nethryk Pane of 20 stamps Northern goshawk ( Accipiter gentilis) Peregrine falcon ( Falco peregrinus) Golden eagle ( Aquila chrysaetos) Osprey ( Pandion haliaetus) Northern harrier ( Circus cyaneus) |

Nells250 - Agreed. Among the five, I like the Northern Goshawk stamp the best. Here is an image of another Golden Eagle ( Aquila chrysaetos), an airmail stamp designed by Austrian painter and illustrator Hans Strohofer (1885-1961), engraved by Herbert Toni Schimek, and issued by Austria on January 7, 1952, Scott No. C60, SG No. A60. - nethryk |
