Sounds like you have a great collection going, ThaiWanderer. I am just 3 years into my collection of modern issues, and a collection of Rama IX definitive series. I don't have any pages at the moment, everything is in stock books. Hope you can post some scans sometime :) |

Hi Gary, welcome to SCF. There are a few people here who collect Thailand, so I am sure help is available - depends on what info you need. Let us know how we can help.
This particular topic is for posting images and information about Thai stamps issued this year, but discussion is always welcome.
If you're thinking about how to obtain new issues, and you are in Thailand, the best method is usually just to head down to the post office on issue day. This year there have been several delays, so lately I tend to go in about a week after the issue date. Some post offices are set up well for collectors, and have a dedicated counter for buying commemorative issues. Smaller post offices still offer commemorative stamps, but you'll probably have to ask to see them, and will be ushered into a back office. This is a good way to get to know the postal staff and the postmaster :) If you are in Bangkok, you can get the stamps at the GPO. I am outside Bangkok, so I don't know the details, but every Saturday there is a stamp market at the GPO.
You can also get all current Thai issues via mail order from the ThaiStampShop (link on the previous page, along with the comprehensive online catalogue from Siam Stamp), but this is a private enterprise, so you'll pay a little more than face value. But if you need an issue, and can't get to a P.O. it is very useful, and offers great service, certainly within Thailand.
My local P.O. also sells the A4 presentation pages you mention. I haven't seen one from Hobby Inter since last year, but there seems to be a few other companies producing them. BPCollections do bilingual ones, and a company that I think is "First File" does Thai language only sheets (I could have got that company name completely wrong). I don't really collect these myself; there are so many variations. I'll buy one if it features the King, or for an issue that particularly like. |

Issue 973 - Centennial of RTAF Founding Fathers' Aviation, 1st seriesIssued on 9th April 2012 / 2555This is a big issue: 8 designs featuring aircraft flown by the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) during the 20th century, issued on a se-tenant stamp sheet, 2 FDCs, and 2 souvenir sheets. And another series is expected later this year. Here are the aircraft: Nieuport IIN, 1913-1918 Breguet III, 1913-1918 Boriphat or Boripatra, 1927-1940 Ki-30, 1940-1949 F8F-1, 1951-1960 F-84G, 1956-1963 F-86F, 1961-1972 F-5A, 1967-1998 All the stamps are issued on a se-tenant stamp sheet (I haven't seen single-stamp sheets for this issue). It is practically a souvenir sheet, except that there are two actual souvenir sheets in the issue. Here is the se-tenant sheet: Here are the first day covers, first 4 aircraft, chronologically: And the second 4 aircraft: And here are the 2 souvenir sheets, side by side: And as a bonus, Leng has already posted a postal cover featuring these stamps here: https://goscf.com/t/21483&whichpage=2#211907 |

Thanks for the treat. I love Thailand stamps but it's not in my future collecting scope yet. |

Issue 974 - Set of Five Highly Revered Buddha ImagesIssued on 5th May 2012 / 2555This issue arrives on an auspicious day in the Thai calendar: 5/5/55, using the B.E. date system (Buddhist Era). Hence 5 stamps issued at 5 baht each (Thai stamps are usually issued at 3 baht). It features five Buddha images: Top to bottom, left to right:Phra Phutthasothon, Wat Sothonwararam Worawihan, Chachoengsao Luang Pho To, Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai, Samut Prakan Luang Pho Wat Rai Khing, Wat Rai Khing, Nakhon Pathom Luang Pho Wat Ban Laem, Wat Phetchasamut Worawihan, Samut Songkhram Luang Pho Wat Khao Ta-Khrao, Wat Khao Ta-Khrao, Phetchaburi The issue is available as a souvenir sheet: The souvenir sheet features a water theme, which is a clue to the story behind these Buddha images: The Legend of the Floating Buddha Statues ( text from the Thai Stamp Bulletin, Issue 2 2012): Quote: According to the legend, there were five brothers who ordained and became enlightened monks. They prayed together that they would dedicate themselves to help living creatures from suffering. Even after their death, they would continue to make merit for mankind until they achieved nirvana. When these five monks passed away, their spirit dwelled in five Buddha statues. They displayed their miraculous power by allowing these Buddha statues to float and flow along five rivers until villagers found them. Each Buddha statue was enshrined at a temple close to the point where they were found. As with all Thai issues, it is also available on FDC: |
