I'd say the royal cypher seals are revenue-related, but still cinderellas. And interesting.

Great
Don't know how one mounts these,
they are very thick and rigid.
Perhaps photo corners.

And which side faces out? There are two elements here, the impressed duty revenue, and the cypher seal.

Frankly, I'm equally interested in the cypher seals. When they are missing, which is often, it makes the decision easier.

I am glad you mentioned that
that's my preference also.

It may look ugly, but I think I am going the Hagner route
to mount, as I do my Perfins.
Not good for the overall Album look, but hinging is not an option
for either.

Good design is ageless...

Hello!

Thanks for posting this.

I have a lease from 1735 that has very similar stamps. It's on vellum which has sort of petrified - I was afraid to try to squash it into my scanner...sorry if the photos are less detailed. If anyone is interested, I can try to get some better pics. Let me know.

Looks like 6 pence times three? Oldest revenues in my collection...that's for sure.

I got this from a book collecting friend of mine. He bought it for the antique vellum - but didn't feel right chopping it up, so I bought it from him.

I didn't have any idea how to even research this sort of thing. Then look what pops up on the SCF. Bingo!

There isn't much that is not addressed here on SCF Peter,
but I think we are all a bit cloudy on these things,
a real specialty area,
Thanks for saving the article, absolutely irreplaceable
and thanks for posting.

I took another look at the lease.

Its a lease for one yeare between Mr John Cork?rill and Mr Edward/Howard Sawbridge of Da_entree (???) of Northampton (??) its a "'hampton" and it doesnt seem to be Southampton. I think the total amount is 5 shillings - but I'm not sure.

I'll get some better pics and get back to you. The ink is flaking off a bit on the right side. Which also has the stain. Ancient moisture or mouse pee at work on the right side.

I find these metal revenues fascinating. I know anything is collectible, but do these cypher seals, as they've been called, have any value?

The place will be probably be Daventree, in Northamptonshire. It has been a settlement since Saxon times, around 920 AD. So plenty of history there!
