This is an 1860s unused check from Manufacturers' National Bank of New York.
It has an #RN-B1 2c orange revenue stamp printed on it

and a engraved vignette of a woman waiting by a lighthouse and looking out to sea.

That is beautiful! Tell her she's looking in the wrong direction!
That would be gorgeous in a frame as an 8X10 or larger! So romantic!

Thanks for posting!

Are the stories I've heard about sailors all true Laswabbie

I was in the Air Force on a Naval Air base in the 70's I've heard some real humdingers.

Hi, t360. I'm new to the board and browsing old posts. This one of yours prompted me to post images of a couple of checks in my collection with the same vignette. I'm recently branching into revenue stamped paper and will have to look for one like yours -- hopefully as nice!

The lighthouse images on all three checks are actually different, although they seem to have been printed by the same company in New York. Printers usually had a wide variety of stock images from which clients could choose what they wished.

Obviously, you're correct, revcollector. I must learn to be more precise in my posts. I know about stock images and have at least 3 versions of this very one, but my aging brain simply forgot!

What a wonderful thread! I appreciate reading all of your posts and the wonderful depictions of the checks.

And, as usual, I learn something new from Revcollector!
