There are no US Official stamps or covers on this forum! How can that be?

Let's fix this right now. Please post your O's. Classics to Mods.

I have been trying to put together a nice looking set of used classic singles for many years,
one-at-a-time, without too much progress.

This is the only Aggie in my collection. (Dept. of Agriculture)

I have a 1920s or 30s Dept of Ag cover, but it
doesn't seem to have a stamp on it. I guess the
stamp either fell off or was removed... ???
However it doesn't appear to ever have had a
stamp.

The envelope has a warning against "private use"
pre-printed on it with all the official stuff.
Did the 'official' pre-printed envelopes back
then just get mailed without franking? Or can
I assume that there was a stamp on there and it
is MIA?

Thanks
Dave

Those are called penalty envelopes. It was likely mailed with just the preprinted penalty notice (which was sufficient) and didn't need to have a stamp on it.

Yes that's a classic. Why the post office department used a numeral design rather than portraits
like all the other governmental departments is unclear to me. Each department was assigned a color,
and the post office got black. I think the portraits would have looked good in black.

Here is a blue one for the Department of the Navy.

Thanks, Tom. I bought most of them from the APS sales circuit "US Officials."
Looking these over now I realize that I should keep adding to them,
even though it is a slow process to find nice used copies.
Covers seem almost non-existent for these.

Here is a parade of Treasury Departments. I am only missing the 2c and the 30c in this series.
