So did I just drink too much for New Years or does this look like a invert to you? Maybe I should sort some more of these things today.

I'm sorry Dianne I had to go and feed the coal furnace before I got to post my explanation. I wanted it in two parts to have a little fun. The first one would make people go wow and wonder if it was a undiscovered rare stamp.

This next post would explain why it isn't.

This would be as far as I know an impossible stamp to find. The main reason is that single color stamps were only fed through the printing process once. All inverts are the result of a second feeding through the printing process when the sheets are turned the wrong way.

Thus the only way this could be an invert would have been if the plate was engraved upside down.

This stamp though it looks real and the art work is great even with cancellations marks is what I call an impossible printing.

Sorry D I should of finished this prior to getting heat in the house.

Sometimes knowing about the printing process of stamp can help you figure out the fakes.

Maybe George was drinking too much. I've heard he did run a distillery as a sideline.

It looks normal to me - but then I stayed up until 11:00 last night. That's pretty extreme for me.

Good Joke!

First thing I thought of when I saw the scan of the stamp was that there was only one plate for that issue, not two!

Very clever. I often thought it would be fun to spilt a 707 and 720 vertically and paste the two halves together. Maybe it could be called a five cent stamp.

I've seen this before. The ones I have seen were different colored busts in different colored stamps. I'll bet if you look around the vignette you'll see an incision where it was carefully cut out and re applied inverted. Like noted, it would be impossible for this to "naturally" occur in a single colored stamp.

So is the cancel real? I'd love to see a doctored invert or a printed fake invert that was actually used. Imagine one on a cover!
