I was just notified by UPS that even tho we pay for insurance and shipping they will NOT pay any claims what so ever on postage stamps shipped. They lost a Scott # 226 grade 85 of mine and refuse to pay any claim on any stamp. Has anyone here ever had a claim paid for lost merchandise I need to know please. Thank You Steve
PS Do not ship UPS lets all stick together for this. It is going to go to court and anyone else that wants to join this fight Please inform me.

My daughter has had a nightmare with UPS-not USPS--she helps with running maintenance on a military base in the hospital--they delivered a large shipment of light bulbs to the hospital--she refused to sign for them because she could hear the broken glass in the boxes. They did a bad thing and snuck to another dept--someone else signed for them without knowing what was going on. She is still fighting with them about fragile shipments ,and no one else is allowed to sign for them but her. Nightmare! Anyway, with that out of the way--you probably mean USPS, right??

USPS will pay insurance claims but it can take up to 3 months.
Insurance purchased by an online seller remains the sellers responsibility.....
Stever contact your seller and get a refund....If you paid by paypal you can file a claim as item not received. |

I have gone Thur the process of there 8 days and the 15 days. filed my claim and they said they will not pay for any stamp on any claim. Especially MNH that can be used with other postage to mail a letter 10 cent Webster plus whatever other postage necessary to mail package. |

It shouldn't matter what is being shipped. If you pay for insurance, and it is lost damaged in their care, then they should pay. Their defense is hidden in the fine print. They can wriggle out of paying for anything if the fine print is spun the right way.
I hope you win. |

I hate to say this but it is a pretty common rule. I guess most people don't know it because they just think anything can be insured. However if your in the business of shipping coins & stamps it is something you would know by heart.
Here it is for those that don't like to read. In my opinion UPS did nothing wrong, though the person who sold you the insurance might have, unless you did it on line.
Definition of Articles of Unusual Value Which Are Not Accepted By UPS For Transportation 1. Shippers are prohibited from shipping articles of unusual value via UPS. Articles of unusual value shall be deemed to include, but are not limited to: a. Any package with an actual value of more than $50,000; b. Coins, cash, currency, bonds, postage stamps, negotiable instruments(such as drafts, bills of exchange, or promissory notes, but excluding checks), and money orders; c. Unset precious stones, and industrial diamonds; d. Any article that contains more than 50 percent by weight of gold or platinum, or any combination thereof in raw form, including, but not limited to, bullion, bars or scraps of these metals.
I think that it is pretty clear though I am very sorry to hear about your loss. In any case this is good information for the others that don't read the details. |

I used to ship a lot of original color slides by UPS. They'd always ask who had the negatives when I said the package contained photographs. I'd say no one, they are slides. To which the reply would be they are not insurable. Sometimes I'd counter with well what about film and processing and they'd look at me like maybe. Once I sold a lens to a photographer that got run over by one of their trucks. He asked me to put in a claim, which I did, and they paid it. It was a different class of merchandise with an easily established value. Last year I won a collection and some other stamps on ebay that the seller overstuffed into a flat rate box that burst in transit. Two sheets of the state birds went missing so I got the insurance receipt from the seller and put in a claim for the face value of the stamps with the US Postal Service. Since the claim was for less than $50, the clerk paid it right away with a supervisor's approval. He said if it was for more he would have to send it out for approval and payment. |

Be careful with overseas shipments also. Last time I was sending a package to India and the clerk asked if I wanted insurance. Knowing a few tricks of the trade I replied "But you are not going to cover this if something happens to it correct". They in turn replied " We can sell you the insurance but you can not claim any loss once it leaves the country." |

Quote: We can sell you the insurance but you can not claim any loss once it leaves the country What was your definition of deception, Bob? I guess the only crooks selling stamps aren't on ebay. The clerks at the main post office always try to upsell you on something, whether it's delivery confirmation, insurance, or a return receipt. Once when asked by one of the clerks with whom I'm somewhat familiar about adding a service to a package I was sending I replied "No, I don't want fries with that." |

To everyone that is unclear it is UPS not USPS in which I will be using from now on. But they just changed their tariffs on Jan 5 2009. And I shipped on Dec 23 2008. They will not honor their own rules and will not even offer my shipping costs back. I have a poll going on in general discussions to, please visit it and vote anonymous if you have been duped by UPS ever.
Thanks Steve |
