Hello, I am new to this forum, been a member of the coin forum for a while. I have decided to return to the stamp collecting hobby for the challenge and knowledge.
I would hope for most to be patient with a new to the hobby collector. I would like to know if any one can assist me in my New York State, Dept of Labor inspection stamp, division of bedding, 1-cent.I am awaiting my 2009 Scott's catalog, and it has not yet arrived, containing pictures and needed information.
I am using an old(1970) Scott's Minuteman album, this stamp I can not locate, could anyone please assist me in placing this stamp in the right place, Thanks, Mike...

Harry,
I appreciate your input and effort, I did locate the battle of Thermopylae coin, very sweet coin also could not resist the battle of Cannae, just need a few more to complete the Famous Battle series, also the "Pheidippides coin, the famous runner who ran to Marathon after the battle to announce"we have won", then collapsed and died.
As you can see I have jumped over the fence for another hobby, I would appreciate the information on this stamp, I am not sure even how old it is.
I also have been filling my Scott's "Grand Award, album for stamps of the World", some very interesting stamps I have collected from Australia, from what I can tell, from my book dated(1971) there are less than 470 stamps, have you collected most of these?????, Mike....

It might not be in the Scott catalogue...it sounds to me like a Cinderella (unofficial stamp?).

Mike, that would be a state revenue stamp, which in general are not covered in the Scott US Specialized.
There are, however, a number of specialized catalogs specifically for New York revenues. I do not collect revenues. If someone here at SCF cannot provide you the information, I do know someone who does have the necessary catalogs and can ask him. However, I will need a scan of the stamp.

OK, since there hasn't been a reply, yet...
My online collecting buddy Kurt (he is "K", I am only "k") loves NY revenue stamps. He tells me the following:
Quote: Used values from .25 to 3.50 (except the black for $25) - several typical versions are about .50 There are 7 main catalog types (printing and perf differences) - printed 1933, 34, 36, 37, 40 - discontinued use in 1954, perf sizes are 11, 12, 12.5
Based on the image ( a joined "L" and "A" in LABOR), I'm fairly sure this one is cat "New York #BD4" from 1937 perf 12 used value .25 / mint value $1.25
The stamp is listed in the SRS State Revenue Stamps catalog.
k
If anyone is interested, Kurt has a very nice site on NY Stock Transfer Tax stamps. http://mysite.verizon.net/ktk.lange...TransferTax/
