Jessec87x, welcome to the SCF.

Be patient as not everyone collects U.S. stamps.

I will remove your other post as it duplicates this one anyway.

Steve

Judging by the condition and variety and group that you have it is extremely unlikely that you have 85C and very likely that you have #88. The scan is far too small to aid proper identification.

Hey Jessec87x,
Welcome to the forum.
I do not collect US stamps but I can see some are damaged.
The first stamp, upper left, a 'cut square', cut off an envelope, is neat, I like those, especially the embossed (pressed into the paper) ones. I think usually to make those worth anything they still have to be on the envelope, I mean that you should have the entire envelope. Sometimes, other stamps on the same piece (of paper) makes it worth something though. Some people do like to collect them (like me).
I like the violet or purple Ben Franklin one (I can recognize his profile, I think he is on a Canadian stamp too). It looks like a corner is missing on him.
Stamps are like anything else, the better condition they are in, the more they are worth. Any cuts or nicks devalue a stamp. Any worth they might have after that is from a special cancellation or just being rare and harder to get for the average guy, so may be sold as a 'space filler' or for study purposes but not for a good price.
I am always learning that something I never considered worth looking at is worth something to someone somewhere, just because it has a special colour or cancel or watermark or some little printing error or just because they want to get as many of that design or topic as possible for some purpose or another. It's all good.
I betca that didn't tell you much. Wish I had a US specialized catalog here, I would look them up for you. I do like to learn new stuff all the time.

So if there no #88 or anything what are the 3 ones on the bottom right??. I was on a website and they look 100% the same well at least to my eyes. I just have a huge box of stamps and no idea if any are good or bad. I really just want to know if the bottom right ones or good?

Hello-

I don't look twice at most U.S. stamps, so I'm no expert. That being said, the stamps that I think you are referring to look like the A25 design in the Scott catalogue. That design could be any of several stamps, most of which admittedly have some pretty nice values, except #65 (which still cats for a few bucks). Someone with more knowledge of these things than me may be able to tell you instantly why this isn't #65, which would be good for you.

Personally, when I'm looking up the possibilities for a stamp I run across, I start out with the lowest-value example, and figure out why it isn't that stamp, and then go up from there. For me, it has proven to be a timesaver. Its great when you can rule out the low values. As pointed out above, there do look to be some condition issues, but if you're looking to fill spaces in an album, one or another of them would certainly hold the space for now.

Good luck. Hope they turn into something.

Collin
