heres Sri Lanka scott # 659 showing Dugongs..in Florida zay are called the Manatee..but I think they are the same beast !! They live in either salt or fresh water..preferably on the warm side !!

It's great Philb.I have this Srilankan stamp.The stamp says it's Duong Dugon.

They are both in the same animal order but different families.
Dugons range from the Rea Sea & east coast of Africa to northern coast of Australia north to the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, while the Manatee ranges from Georgia coast to Gulf Of Mexico & the Caribbean to Brazil and up the Amazon,
then again in West Africa from Mauritania south to Angola and inland as far as
Lake Chad.

I once lived in Florida & studied this in marine biology.

Dugong is also what we call Manatees in the Philippines

My wife and I both love manatees (got a picture of them on my wall right here). Thanks for the picture posts, now I know of two more stamps I want!

So in part to answer your question, philb, it's a dugon on the Sri Lanka stamp & a manatee on the Cameroon stamp.
Remember they are of the same animal order but are different
families. The dugon & manatee are similar, but ultimately not the same animal.
