I've found numerous typos looking through the Scott catalog, but now I've found something that just leaves me confused. I was checking the value of some unused Australian Antarctic Territory stamps (L1-L5, also L8-L18, Scott 2009) and noticed that the "Set, never hinged" values were lower than the total of the individual stamps (18.75 total for L1-L5 and "Set, never hinged" for 8.50)! Moreover, all values for unused stamps for AAT are indicated as being for never hinged stamps...
Anyone noticed this or have a guess at the real meaning?
Scott 2009. It lists the individual value of the stamps, the value for "Nos. L1-L5 (5)" as 18.75 unused (assumed NH as labeled above), and "Set, never hinged 8.50"
I got hold of a copy of Scott 2010 from the library and looked to see what it said about these Australian Antarctic Territory stamps. It says "Set, hinged" for the lower values, instead of the "Set, never hinged" as in the 2009 catalog. This makes sense; hinged mint stamps are generally less valuable than never hinged and the 2009 copy had a rather confusing typo. Mystery solved!
