I have an complete album which dates from 1847 through 1932 - Golden Replicas of US Classic Stamps. It is in the original blue album withe approximately 100 envelopes with a 22kt gold replica stamp on each envelope and each stamp is addressed "First Day Issue" with the date of the issue. Can you tell me the value of this album?"
Hello Marie, and welcome to the forum. I don't think that those replica FDC are really worth much, however, with the price of gold, going sky-high, you may want to check out the coin forum.
I went to a stamp and coin show, a few weeks ago, and they were snatching up those covers, and running over to the coin dealers.
If the stamps are indeed gold foil, then you need to know the exact thickness of the foil (the gauge) and purity of the metal to figure out how much gold is in each one. This information may be provided with the set.
If they are gold plated on a base metal, then there is probably too little gold to even think about the melt value.
