Please let me clarify a couple of points. On re-reading the Scott notes, not all the Farleys were accepted by the Post Office Dept for gumming.

horamkhet, There were 2 souvenir sheets issued, Scott 735 and the special printing Scott 768. The distinguishing feature is the wider gutter (margin) on the 768. The 735 were cut into panes of 6 before release while the 768 could be bought as sheet of 150 (25 panes of 6). The prices seems a little high to me but I am not familar with the Australian stamp market.

I thought I'd add these here rather than starting a new thread.

I found these album pages in the back of an album of Gilbert & Ellice Islands material

Possibly signed by the whole expedition, including Byrd

Here is one of my gutter blocks for you to see.
I still need both perforated stamps though. (#733 & #753)

Seriously, don't you hate it when you can't acquire a simple, low-value stamp. You know they're plentiful, but you just never seem to be at the right place at the right time (with fifty cents in your pocket?)

Speak of the devil! I had to edit my post after a re-read because I caught this sentence! There a few that I can never seem to run into! It seems like when you see them, like you said, you just don't have the 50 or if you go to purchase one it's .01 for the stamp and $1.00 postage! lol so the gap remains.. The aforementioned stamps in my text above are a good example! ~ (#733 & #753)

I'm pretty sure that the signed cover is an important and very saleable item. Do I risk the vagaries of eBay, or should I hunt out a (probably US-based) auction house? I sell quality Falklands material on eBay UK, and start it all at 99p. as I know I have a core of very serious collector customers. This is a different proposition I think.

Just a bump. Can anyone suggest an auction house in the US that may focus on Antarctica material?

Jubilee:

I don't know of an auction source.

I've recently joined the Polar Philately group on Yahoo.

I'm having a deja-vu moment; seems like we've talked about the Yahoo group before, but a quick SCF search didn't pop for me.

Anyhoo...
