The stamp on the right appears to have been printed on some kind of toned or coloured paper:

I think the overall effect is extremely attractive, but I can't see a listing for it in Gibbons Commonwealth catalogue. Gibbons does have a note that reads: 'Stamps on pink paper are from a consignment recovered from the sea and which were affected by the salt water.'

Although to my eyes my copy is more yellowish than pink (admittedly my scan seems to make it look rather pink), I suppose this is the type of stamp they are talking about. If not, I'd be interested in knowing whether Unitrade or any of the specialist catalogues list a variety on coloured paper.

Here it is again:

Ah, they don't make 'em iike that anymore!

jimjamtwo, I checked the Unitrade catalogue for this stamp (#60)and note that the following colours are listed for it: #60 slate, #60a grey lilac, #60b brown lilac, #60c lilac and lastly #60d slate violet. I only have three colour varieties in my collection but they don't look like your pinkish one. My slate coloured stamp has a hint of cream colour in the lighter areas. I am starting to build my Newfoundland collection and my knowledge is rather limited so I hope a more seasoned collector can comment on your inquiry. Regards Mike

LOL. It is a direct steal, isn't it!

Mike, I'm reconciled to the fact that I must have the water-affected one now.

That said, it makes it a stamp with an interesting history!
