The Easter weekend is coming, but here in Canada (in my part anyway) it's unseasonably cold, so it feels like that other holiday. And what says celebration better than a Christmas bat?

Well, if you are in the tropics, you don't have Christmas trees, sleighs, snow, holly, mistletoe and even traditional images of Santa are a bit off given all that cold weather gear. There are no fireplaces, and therefore no stockings hung on them. What's left? Bats, I say. ;o) |

Now, don't give jamesw a battering, Jhlovell, this isn't combat! We'll send you on sabbatical if you don't stop these battles! |

james, you must have been up all night playing with stamps and starting to go batty yourself. As far as the bat being Rudolph the red-nosed bat, I think it might be a vampire bat if you are seeing red.

I think Moonbird has the right idea, really. We are talking about an explicitly communist and atheistic government (whether you could apply those terms to the Cuban society as a whole may be a more complex argument). As a result, you have a country with a long christian tradition and a communist leadership.
So . . . you cannot gloss over Christmas by not having a Christmas stamp, but at the same time Christian symbology is not permitted, so instead they turned to the next logical subject matter - mother nature. |
