On June 17th the USPS will be releasing a pane of 16 stamps honoring Charles and Ray Eames. Yeah, I know. I've never heard of them either.

It seems that they are "famous" furniture designers. The stamps will depict, among other things, their design of . . . . now get this . . . . STACKING CHAIRS!

The U.S. is not alone in producing junk like this, but give me a break!

I think it's about time, we as collectors, voted with our wallets and refused to buy some of this junk the post offices churn out. (Yes, it happens here in Aus too). Maybe if we stop buying them, they might review there methods.

i still have scrap postage picked up over the years..but I have very little desire to purchase current U.S. commems like I used to buy to put on letters to collectors...someone sent me a cover of the Marjorie Rawlings stamp ..because I always remark to my wife when we drive past the Cross Creek sign in Northern Florida..the movie The Yearling with Claude Jarman Jr. was one of the first movies I ever saw..i dont know if too many folks on this forum go that far back !

Unfortunately, Phil, I do go that far back!

I still buy and use commemoratives, but I'm selective. I use the Breast Cancer, Purple Heart, and such.

I'm looking forward to the Baseball and Alzheimer's issues. I'll buy and use them for sure.

I ticks me off also, sometimes so bad,
that I am almost tempted to use metered stamps.

Might as well, they can't be soaked off anyway.
And who wants to collect mint stamps on backing paper?

BTW, I like the way Bob uses metered mail. He encloses
a used commemorative clipped from another envelope to
make it good.

I picked up a sheet of these Eames stamps last Friday, and kind of like them. By themselves, maybe not much, but the sheet is very well done and very effective. Great graphic design!

Bob, was going to use one to mail your covers.
Looks like I'll have to make a trip to the PO and ask for a meter strip!

If the U.S. Postal Service can put Betty Boop, Porky Pig, Andy Warhol, and Chinese New Year on a stamp every year, why not the Eames?
