Good evening all from Ottawa, Canada.
My name is David Giles, and I was encouraged to come to this website by Meostamps and PhilB.
I am a four-year member of the APS, a member of the ATA, a member of the Board-of-Directors of SOCORICO (The Society of Costa Rica Collectors), and Vice-President of the Ottawa Philatelic Society.
The Ottawa Philatelic Society is Canada's oldest local stamp club (Established in 1891). We have over ninety members and we meet weekly, eleven months of the year. We usually have between 35 and 50 members at each weekly meeting.
Each year in Ottawa (the nation's capital) we hold a national-level philatelic exhibition called ORAPEX. I have been a member of the ORAPEX Committee for the past two years, and I am responsible for the Youth Booth.
I collect the following...
1. British Commonwealth of the reign of King George VI (1937-1952), used. I collect plate, colour, and printing varieties; and marginal markings. I also collect revenues of the reign. 2. Costa Rica: including revenues, covers, aerogrammes, FDC's, interesting postal markings, city and town postmarks, covers with ancillary markings, covers showing rates, registered mail, and multiples, used. 3. Stamps and covers related to cardiology, used. Cardiology is the study of diseases and disorders of the heart. Look for the 1972 issues honouring World Health Day with the theme "Your Heart Is Your Health". As well, any slogan cancellations, etc. 4. United States Air Mail stamps, plate number singles, marginal markings, blocks of four, used; and covers and air postal history related to the State of Texas. I collect Texas city and town postmarks, and fancy cancels on United States Air Mail stamps.
5. United States Americana Series (1975-1983), mint, used, covers showing usages, FDC's, marginal markings, plate blocks, covers with ancillary markings, interesting postmarks, covers with purple machine cancels, multiples, etc. I collect the plate blocks and the singles, mint and used. 6. Netherlands Indies / Indonesia, mint, used, postal stationary, revenues, and multiples.
For those of you who are Scouts and Scouters, I collect BSA CSP's. I am also a Rover Knight Scout, and a former Rover Knight Scout Chancellor.
I look forward to meeting other collectors and learning a thing or two from them.
