Well, looks like I fall in the same boat as a lot of others on here. I started collecting stamps in the early 1960's up till about `75 or `78 then got disinterested in the stamps and just two weeks ago got interested in it. Last week I found this forum and it turned me on again. Guess I will keep it up now since I have about 48 man hours cataloging my stamps....Me and My Son that is...LOL So for my count is over 200 and still have about 30 to 40 pages to go. Just now coming to the Oldest stamps I have. We started from the back of the album...

Hello everyone.....

I started my first collect when I received my first album for my 6th birthday Jan. 7, 1958. I've built and sold 5 or 6 collections since but I've never really stopped collecting for any length of time. Before selling a collection I had another already started, always looking for better material. My interests now tend to lean towards early postal history both US & worldwide, although there is also some modern material that I also hunt for.

It was some time just after first grade or so. I know it was the late 1960's so I would say 1968 or 1969. I went pretty steady to around 1977 then off and on until the early 1990's.

I started collecting when I was 10 in the late 1950's. With a brief interruption for military service, I have been a collecter for a few years.

Oh, shoot. I just started a thread called "How Did You Get Into Stamp Collecting?" before I saw this thread.

If a Mod wants to merge it with this one, by all means, go ahead.

Started collecting in 1957. My Geography teacher's son collected stamps and belonged to a stamp club.My teacher started bringing
his son's duplicates and raffled them off to the class. He'd have the class pick a number between 1 & 100. Then call out about 10 numbers whoever had one of those numbers would get a packet of about 100 stamps. Bought a Harris album at Kresge's for $2.95.
Through the years had put it away several times. College, first years of marriage and divorce. When I got the Ambassador album
filled , I got a Citation album. When it started getting crammed full I started looking for Scott Intn'l album. In 1975 at the first stamp shpw I ever went to a dealer had the first 8 Scott Intnl's for a hundred dollars. been using them ever since.
However, about 3 years ago I started making my own specialized albums. Have made G.B., Canada, Ireland, Australia albums so
far. Am making U.S. albums for 10 years periods. Started w/ 2007 and have gotten back to 1970. I love'em , got a space for every stamp including a's and b's and varieties.

Hi All,

Started as a kid in the 1970's with my brother to collect some USA and got a Minkius "All American" album. Forgot about stamps for awhile, but I ended up with our collection. Then as a young adult. I started to accumulate some new issues from the USA. Then when the internet and e-bay came along, I really got interested in it again.

Like it or not, I think the Internet, and eBay (and various forms thereof) have been a real boon to the stamp collecting hobby. I think it has rekindled interest in some, and increased the collecting pleasure of many others.

I started about five years ago when my partner decided to resume collecting after a lay-off of decades. I had to find something to do at the stamp shows, right?

I was attracted to stamps with U.S. flags on them, and that's all it took.
