Considering the race going on now to the south of us, for the nomination for the Republican candidate for President, I thought it would be interesting to show our covers to or from political figures, big or small. This cover has been shown before, but the sender Omar W. Platt was a Delegate to Republican National Convention from Connecticut, 1924. Let's see your politicos. edit- I've renamed this thread to honour ALL politicians. No bias here.

This the oldest "return addressed envelope" in my collection. It is a test vote for the Democratic party nominees in the 1888 U.S. presidential election. It wants you to place your vote and chew bakky. Cleveland v Harrison: |

Just received this one in today's mail. Sent to Colonel James H(utchins) Johnson, Lisbon, New Hampshire by David Burbank on December 19, 1837. Burbank owned a lumber yard in Hartford, Connecticut and Johnson owned a lumber mill -- the letter content was informing Johnson that Burbank had a market for 50 to 75 masts if they were of sufficient quality. Johnson would later represent New Hampshire in the 29th and 30th Congresses. |

This came in the mail yesterday. I believe the stamp is a PNC- it's kind of hard to tell with the cancellation. |

Sorry Ray, I plead ignorance what are third parties? I can guess, but rather not.
I heard yesterday, an Aust discussion on Michelle Obama's speech (we don't have that in Oz, we vote for a prime minister and party) It was described as The Americans voting for their Monarchy with respect to the families being presented as they are.

Because of the prominence of the Democratic and Republican parties, any other significant political party might be considered a "third" party.
In reality there are several active political parties. |
