There will be an unveiling ceremony on Sept. 2 at 10:30 am in Springfield Illinois at the State Capitol building at 2nd Street and Capitol near the Abraham Lincoln statue. The Lt. Governor and Springfield Postmaster among other officials are suppose to be there. The stamp club I belong to was contacted by the post office to get as many members there for the unveiling ceremony. I am hoping to make arrangements with my manager to take lunch early to attend. How cool is that? Now I just have to make a cover for the event.

I went to a few official FDOI events at Washington 2006 and they were interesting. I really enjoyed the free ceremony program with one of the stamps cancelled with the FDOI postmark. This event will be a first day of sale event, not a first day of issue. I do believe that there will be a pictorial postmark available at the event, as well as up to 30 days after. My manager has agreed to let me reschedule my lunch hour to attend. My only concerns now are my printer malfunctioning, parking, and purchasing the roll of stamps prior to the event (just in case). |

If the covers look funny, blame my scanner. Image Insert: Image: ILFlagcover2.jpg46.57 KB I tried to upload the ceremony program, but the file was too large, after I compressed it. I'll try later. I need to get to bed. Everyone enjoy. |

Glad you guys liked the covers. I used Microsoft Office 2007, my Epson photo printer, and my digital camera. In case you are wondering about the Route 66 shield, the State Capitol building sits along an alignment on 2nd street. This is where the ceremony took place in the Rotunda, just inside the doors behind the statue of Abramham Lincoln. There was even a small news story on TV and in the State Journal Register about the FDOS ceremony. It is always nice to be able to incorporate my 2 topical collections on 1 cover: Lincoln & Route 66. |

Gussy, You would think that my userID was "sneeky". Of course I had a way to figure route 66 into my cachet. As you read from my previous post, it was very easy. Also, with the anniversary of Lincoln's House Divided speech this year I can figure route 66 into that as well. Because the Old State Capital in Springfield IL resides on 6th street an alignment of route 66 and that is where the speech took place. My stamp club's Fall Bourse cover is honoring that event with a full color cachet & pictorial postmark in October. |
