I bought this uncut sheet of distilled spirits taxpaid stamps today for the princely sum of $3.00!

An uncut sheet of ten 4/5 quart stamps!

The overprint reads:
AMERVOLL CO INC NEW YORK
MCKINLEY SILVER PEG
SCOTCH WISKEY

except the third stamp from the top has an L over a misprint O and a doubled V in SILVER!

One of my first jobs included making sure these stamps were properly glued to the top of the bottles before they were crated. About a month after I started the job the distillery changed over to tamper proof caps and were no longer required to stamp them. I wish I had saved some of the left over sheets of stamps.

I have always liked the design of these stamps.
Like many of the tax paid stamps, you had to tear the stamp in order to open the product, so not many survived.
They are not widely collected, though. I have a few others - I'll look for them and post them.

I have some of those also. They aren't in the greatest condition but I still like them. Here are a couple of scans of some of what I have.

I saw them at the "Greater Nashua Stamp Show" in New Hampshire.
There was a price of $3 marked, which seemed so low I figured it referred to some singles that he already sold.
I was guessing he would want $30 for the sheet of ten, so I was going to try to get them for $25.

When I asked the price for the sheet, he said "$3".
So I paid him quickly without dickering.

Interesting collection of revenue stamps, sharksfan11!
Those oleomargarine stamps are interesting!
The dairy farmers did not like oleomargarine cutting into their butter business
and persuaded Congress that oleomargarine must be taxed.

I like them but most of the time they aren't in great condition because nobody collects them.
