I seen this on eBay and if you collect advert covers you should pick this up. It's NOT mine I'm NOT plugging this but thought it was worthy of bringing this lot to your attention.

Those are very interesting. Thanks for posting. In particular there are a couple of covers addressed to a person in Ira, Vermont. According to Wiki, that small town had a 2010 population of only 432; I can only imagine how much smaller it would have been 120 years ago! In fact, the Ira, VT post office was discontinued way back in 1900, so I imagine the postmarks from that town alone are quite collectible.

There may be more than advert cover collectors bidding. You might have one of us postmark collectors bidding too. (I'm neither a bidder nor the seller)

Pre 1900 postmarks were typically collected by cutting the postmark to 2 X 4 inches or even cutting out just the date stamp. If the postmark or cancel type is scarce, $4 to $6 a cover is not unusual.

The description states the "Ira VT" backstamp is a DPO and has an RF5. That's a gauge of the postmark's scarcity. A 5 is high so it would command a premium to a serious VT postmark collector.

The fact that they are nice advert covers with clean strikes to boot is just gravy.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.
