So I'm in the South Hills south of Pittsburgh and I stop at a stamps store to pick up some mounts. I notice they have three half pound bags of stamps for $9.00. So I bite and buy one, what the heck it is only $9.00 dollars.

To my surprise the bag is fill with all old stamps. The 2 hour drive home is a blank as I started going through the bag while driving. Not a good thing to do but I made the trip home without hitting another car.

Some of the things I found include the CU222 George Washington with the Cuba over print. Three different Nebraska over prints. Several 1870 to 1888 Bank Notes that include the Franklin 1 cent, Jackson 2 cent and the Jefferson 10 cent stamp. I had tons of the carmine or red 2 cetn Washington and about drove off the road when I noticed one had the Cap on both 2's.

In addition there a few Lincoln 222 and Grant 223's along with the 1cent through 8 cent Columbian commemorates. I even found the 401 perforated 1 cent Balboa.

Since these are mostly still all on paper I have many very interesting cancellations which include many full barrels and dates stamps. I have a very nice Grand Central Station cancellation. I remember the oldest date stamp to be in the 1860's but I still have to find the stamp it was on.

I have only touch the surface because most of these stamps are from the 1930's back into the 1800's and many are stuck together so I will have to soak them to find out what they include.

The mix also included several old Canadian stamps along with a handful of foreign stamps.

I was expecting a bag full of modern day stamps and if I had know they were this old I might of bought all three bags just for the fun of finding out what is inside.

I hope to go through the collection in more detail as the days pass but for ow I have to get some work down to pay the bills. I just thought I would tell you about my pleasant surprise on my first kilo purchase.

I'm very happy with my purchase today and to tell the truth it was a very last second decision. Frankly I just needed some mounts. I had asked to see there stamps between 1 and 500. I was looking for some of the cheap MNH ones. I didn't really see any that I liked or where in my price range. I almost bough the big head Jackson but didn't really want to part with $50 for it.

So I gave them my credit card for the mounts but a fax was coming in so I had to wait. I saw these white bags setting and I said what the heck the girls will have fun soaking some stamps. So I bought one of the three figuring I would get mostly 170 to current stamps. What the heck even if they were total junk it would be a cheap thrill for the girls.

Now sure they are used but I have found more than enough great stamps to make this one of the most exciting buys I have ever made.

I'm going to make a trip back to buy the two other bags but that won't be until next week. If they are there and they contain the same stamps I will consider giving some of them out including the better ones.

Your title made me think your purchase was disappointing. Far from it, I see. You're making some people here drool!

It has been fun and for sure I have more than my invested $9. I have been going through these pretty late tonight. What makes it fun is that I didn't have a lot of these stamps. They include a lot Franklins & Washingtons. I found some stamps that have to research because I don't collect in those areas.

What it boils down to is a lot of fun because because I hit the sweet point for the type of stamps I like.

Let me know if you end up with duplicates of some of the older ones.

I'd be happy to buy them from you.

Dianne, Dianne, Dianne like after you offered and mailed my daughter some stamps like I'm going to charge you. I was planning on including some of them along with the FDC's I told you I would give you.
