Here's the last stamp club piece I'll bore you with (can't blame a guy for wanting to show off!)
I found this simple cover interesting. It sports an 1870 SC#147 with a rather nice Springfield Mass town cancel.
I kept wondering if the notation on the upper left read Ried or Died, but suddenly realized it was Rec'd (received) which dates it nicely. Therefore, the second notation is Ans (answered).
Someone has lightly doodled around the cancel in pencil. I may clean that off with my trusty white eraser.

Addressed to
Mr. Frank D. Sawyer
Conway Corner
Carroll Co. MA.

That cover is certainly nice, but the address isn't Massachusetts, it's Carroll County, New Hampshire (NH).

(There isn't a Carroll County in Massachusetts!)

Thanks all for the comments. wt1, that would explain why my google searches were for naught. But you have to admit the NH kind of looks like a MA.

According to the 1880 Census, there was one Frank D. Sawyer located in Wakefield (Carroll County), NH, as follows:

Frank D. Sawyer (age 34) - Occupation: Retail Grocer
May Sawyer (wife) (age 34)
Luther E. Sawyer (son) (age 2)

The name and occupation seems to fit this listing from the NH Historical Society:

Great classic cover James! I never tire of seeing the old penmanship/handwriting/font of that time period. It's quite a shame that we lost that beautiful writing along the way. Congrats!

Thanks ILS. That's one of the things I love about these old covers too. Even my 18 year old daughter is fascinated by the calligraphy. The closest I'll get o having one of my kids share my hobby.
wt1! Once again you prove you are a wiz at the research game. Your skills go waaaaay beyond a simple google search. I am in awe.
This would put Mr Sawyer at the age of 27 when receiving this letter. More info for the album page. Many thanks.
