Hey all...
I just got back from visiting my sister and imagine my surprise. She told me she picked me up a couple things at an auction she went to recently, but, my jaw hit the floor when I saw the box! There was a mixture of clear and black mounts (tons!), a color chart, a perf gauge, glassines, a stockbook FULL of various stamps that were mounted strangely (IMO), they were kind of stacked but hinged seperately, and an old Harris album.

I'm only posting the one pic, because I'm not sure of limits on how many and such. I resized with the tool on the forum, but I couldn't see a limit anywhere.

Anyhow, if anyone's interested, I would be more than happy to post more here. I can hardly contain myself!

Thanks for looking.
Chad

chadn, welcome to SCF. I wish my sisters would keep their eyes open for stamps to add to my collection. We'd enjoy seeing some scans of the stamps.

Here's a couple close-ups on some items.

the color gauge, which I'm not sure how accurate it is--no idea how old, or if the gauge holds the colors pretty well?

the various stamps....not many, but a couple interesting specimens. I'll take some close-ups further of these, because I'm curious if any of you can place them....

some of the stock book...I'm kinda new at the overprints, I've seen some from a couple different places, but this stockbook has 6 or 7 different places imprinted on them. So, what was the purpose of these overprints?

weird how they are "stacked" in the book.

and the crystal mounts which I'm not too sure about. I like the black ones myself as they show off the stamps better. There are a lot of blacks in here too which helps out for the jumbos and odd sizes that I didn't have a mount for.

BTW, for those interested, I just finally got my sister "trained" after endless begging to watch for deals for me, lol.

Working on stamp scans now....

Peace,
Chad

That's a wonderful accumulation of stamps and stamp supplies. If I may suggest, I'd stay away from using those Crystal Mounts, as there have been reports that long term storage in them can damage your stamps. One example is shown in this previous link:

Hi chadn

Welcome to the group.

The 'overprints' are called pre-cancels. The post office did not have to cancel the stamps, they were already canceled. You will find cities imprinted on them from all over the US.

There is a society that specializes in these:

Welcome to the forum Chad

I think your sister did you a great favour. The mounts alone can be costly, not to mention the stamps <G>. I am sure that there is a lot there to keep yopu busy for a while
