Has anyone heard of these?

http://www.geocities.com/tbtho/taxstamps.htm

Or do they even fit in a philatelic collection? I'm thinking they're kind of like the green grocery stamps or something like that. Anyway I saw these at a flea market today. There were 2 stock pages both full on one side each with this article inserted on the backs in 2 parts. They were selling for $12.50. I would have took a picture, but unfortunately my phone died not long before I found them. If they are of any value, I can run up tomorrow and hopefully they are still there.

Also I found what looked like a FDC that had Scotts #1456-59 on it. The stamps were in the normal place (still in block form) but it had a bronze or gold colored coin on the left side. There was no cancellation that I remember and this sold for $5.00. Even if there's nothing special, I might go back and get this tomorrow just because it looked rather interesting. There was another like this, but I can't remember what the stamp was.

Anyway, any info on either and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Peace,
Chad

I grew up in Ohio and remember taking accumulated sales tax stamps to school about 1955-57.

The FDCs with the gold-colored medal are undoubtedly Bicentennial items sold by the U.S. Mint in conjunction with the Post Office. There are five different medals, if I remember correctly. They also came in little plastic cases for 75c more. Once I get my 50 posts, I will be offering a number of Bicentennial items, as I want to sell those 1976 collections and use the funds to buy new catalogs.

I sure have heard of those Ohio Tax Stamps. They fit into philatelic collections as back-of-the-book material, more commonly referred to as "State Revenue Stamps". The Ohio ones were issued in such major quantities, value is next to nothing. However, for someone who doesn't have them these stamps in a collection, they can add a bit of interest for a little money, especially accompanied by some of the information contained in the write up at the link shown.

We've had previous discussion about these stamps here on Stamp Collecting Forum. Check out these previous links:

Hi doug-- yes, I guess that would be a kind of fund raiser for schools back then--beats having people banging on your door trying to sell you worthless crap for top dollar!

wt1-- sorry, yes, now that you mentioned it, I have read that post already. It's strange that Ohio was the only state to do this. Any idea why? I guess I should look into this seeing as how I live in Ohio!

Well, I guess I need to go see if they're still there and add them to my BOB. Even just to have them as part of history. Thanks guys.

Peace,
Chad
