Do you have any English Admiralty overprints, they are worth quite a bit? Bear - YorkStCb |

ALL stamps have some value. Yours are "worth" about 1p.
You have several threads asking about stamp values. As you live in the UK, the best thing you can do is join your local library and ask for and consult the relevant Stanley Gibbons catalogue. |

The Belgium stamp, tan with a rearing lion, is a precancel, a cancel applied to the stamps as they were printed. The stamps thus printed were to be used by only certain authorized government departmenst or private companies, helping to cut down of the amount of canceling to be done when doing large mailings. |

241079, The stamps you show are rather nice and may get more than you imagine, the trick is to find 2 people who want them at the same time. Regarding the catalogue mentioned by another user, they are very expensive and everyone on here loves questions, so feel free to rely on the site if that is your desire. Once users get used to SCF they realise what a helpful site it is, Bear - YorkStCb |

Quote: You are now a philatelist, not a stamp collector Give the guy a break this fourm is for learning and to do that One has to ask questions theres nothing wrong with asking a question its how we learn. I have quite a few overprints and know very little about them. Even the most experience collectors ( philatelist ) learn something new all the time. Stamp collecting is a live long learning curve, stick around and keep the question coming |

I think being a philatelist grows on one. Catalogues are a good start, bravo, I agree, and trying to figure the $&*^, I mean beloved, catalogues out is another big challenge. I found when I wanted to sell someone else's stamps and do them proud I had to delve into learning at an advanced rate and learned a lot in a small amount of time. But the keen interest in stamps and the whys and wherefores was always there. Little bits of knowledge, or large bits, added to the growing pile as time goes by is quite satisfying because you know that you know more and can appreciate more stamps from more areas or regions or categories. Sometimes the learning is the thing and sometimes the knowing is the thing that produces the satisfaction. It's all good. |

I feel that an answer to a question regarding a stamp on stamp community forum will not just answer my question but maybe answer many other peoples questions regarding the same stamp.
And im gratefull for all knowledge shared.
Thankyou. |

Hi there 241079 You'll get lots of different opinions here, and that's the beauty of the place. We can all learn (and I hope do!) and as many people here have said many times, there's no such thing as a stupid question. Looking at you overprints (which I also find interesting at times) I was intrigued by this Hungarian stamp. Took quite a bit of searching until I found it in the 'back of the book'. It's a Revenue stamp which has been surcharged to turn it into a Postage Due stamp. Again, minimal value I'm afraid, but another of those 'learning moments'. Surcharges can alter a stamp in any number of ways. |

What seems to have come out of this topic, is that collectors with experience need to make certain that their answers to novices do not come over as terse and pompous. We were all without knowledge at one time and the majority of users of this site love to share their knowledge and help those who are just starting out on this fabulous road to stamp nirvana.
