When you purchase an album of stamps on the internet you take a leap of faith...they can show all kinds of pictures...but if the album has a lot of unused stamps and the previous owner went heavy on the moisture when hinging an unused stamp..well after a while we get to be kind of surgeons with the tongs or tweezers(your choice) !

I have encountered that sometimes and wish I could remove the hinge remnant without damaging the mint stamp or immersing the stamp in water and removing the gum. Is there a secret way of removing the hinge remnant but maintaining most of the gum?

use a small paint brush and put moisture on the hinge itself... lat stand then lift off. You get a bit of disturbed gum, but better then a hinge.
