A German stamp on cover with an o/p stating 30 June 1930.But the postmark on the cover reads as 31/10/29.Since the o/p on the stamp is 30 June 1930, isn't the stamp supposed to be used after that date for postage. With the thought that the cancel could be the other way around (yy/mm/dd),I checked and double checked my other covers and noticed that German postmarks or cancels reads as dd/mm/yy.Your opinions and assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Closer view of the stamp and postmark.

You forget what country you are dealing with.

These Germans plan ahead.

Selva, I checked the following link which gives date formats by country and it shows the traditional format for Germany was dd-mm-yy while they recently went to the international format yy-mm-dd.

So it appears that the cancel is from 1929.

Selva,
Per Michel, the stamp wasn't issued until June, 1930. Here's another possible explanation: The cancellation was made in the late afternoon, 16:00 - 17:00 hr. Maybe the clerk was thinking about "ein Maß Bier" rather than the job. I collect US Postmarks and occasionally see months and dates scrambled when the clerk wasn't paying attention. My guess would be that it is an October 29, 1931 date. The clerk just scrambled the type. It's too bad there isn't any content inside that would confirm a date.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

Well, in most European countries we use the dd/mm/yy way for dates.
