I recently came across this postcard at a local antique store, and thought it was odd. I thought the idea of a perfin was to stop people from stealing the stamps for themselves... very odd.

here is the postcard

and the stamp.

Lcp co 36 pins

Edited because I mixed up my terms (perfin/precancel)

Here is one possibility; LCP was headquartered in Rochester New York.

"...West's major competitor, the Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Company, adopted a different philosophy of legal publishing which emphasized the more selective publication of court decisions and the creation of an integrated library of practical legal reference works for the practicing attorney, called the Total Client-Service Library (TCSL)."

The story on LCP suggests that its agents spent a lot of time on the road, carrying out both sales calls and research. They may have been authorized to use a certain number of company stamps per month, etc., on the theory that they would always have postage for advertising purposes. Just an idea.
