Hello everyone,I found this card in my recently inherited collection and when I looked at it better the cancell was first thing that drew my attention...did a little searching on internet and these seem to be rare for some reason..can anyone tell me if this is a rare cancell and if so why?
Thank you so much for your time and any help

What makes you think the cancel is rare?

First of all, the cancel is a "Received" marking so it was never really intended to be used to "cancel" a stamp; rather it was simply used to identify the date the piece was received at the local post office. I could be wrong, but I don't think the "Received" stamp is as collectible as a true postmark that was intended to cancel the stamp(s).

Secondly, the post office at Farmersville Station, NY is still in existence today, so although it is a small hamlet of a community, postmarks from that location should still be readily available.

Am I missing something?

The eBay cancel (priced at $22.50) is a specialized type of R.F.D. (Rural Free Delivery) cancellation, a much different animal.

Not everything offered on ebay at $22.50 is worth $22.50 - or even 22 cents.

Received cancels are definitely collectible. For most states there is a catalog of postmarks from all post offices. Received cancels from existing post offices and stations, unless they are a rare or specialized cancel, are most likely to be minimal value.

Of mild intrest, Centervill NY is now know as Woodridge NY. Small town still, where I spend my summers.

I did not mean to imply that the cancel on eBay was necessarily worth $22. I don't know what it's worth. But I did want to point out that it's an unusual, specialized item, not just a run of the mill cancel.

A slightly more interesting received cancel from the American Postal Machine company. Fort Dodge, IA is still around, but they only used these for a few years I am thinking.
