Love the Cattle stamp. Truly a classic and probably the most beautiful US stamp issued. My current project is to fill in the Columbians, so also like seeing your latest addition. I've got up to the 50 cents, and am now looking for "affordable" dollar values.

Nice stamp. There is something about the picture that is so cool. I think it is the lead bull leading the way for the others. I want one. I'll take a used one, as long as the cancel doesn't mess up that picture too bad.

Always fun to fill the spaces of the key values.

The original painting is titled "The Vanguard" and was painted in Scotland by James Mac Whirter. The cattle pictured are actually Scottish cattle. Supposedly the U.S. Postal authority had seen the original painting at the 1890 Exhibition in New York where the artist's work was featured and selected it for an engraving for one of the stamps commemorating the Trans-Mississippi Exhibition.

Every time I see that stamp it reminds me of the movie "The Rare Breed" starring the great James Stewart and the fiery Maureen O'Hara. All about crossing English Hereford cattle with the robust US Longhorn cattle. Brian Keith playing a Scotsman was a real treat. Worth looking up.

I am still trying to find the picture but I think there is a picture of a print or artist rendering on the BNAPS office or in the UK. Will do a few more searches to see if I can find it.
Has anyone else seen this picture, it might have even been displayed on SCF.
