To my United States collector friends I have to admit my ignorance of the stamps of my own country. For example the One cent Franklin type A44, the lowest value I can find in the Scotts catalog is 6 dollars used ! And yet covers like the one I am showing are readily available in dealers dollar boxes. There has to be tons of them out there..so why so high a catalog value..what did I probably miss?

Scott 206 Gray-Blue (A44b). On cover, $1.40

Edit: I just quoted the 2004 Scott catalogue I keep in my office. I doubt there has been much movement in the price, though.

A clean, clearly-dated CDS cover from a small town (like yours) should bring $4-5, however.

I see no folly, it was merely an oversight; or in my case, laziness!

I've got 4 vario stock pages completely full of the 1c A44-A44b design intermingled, and no immediate plans to do anything about it
