When I go looking for covers at a show...i try to find letters or cards inside the envelope...heres an interesting one a wedding invitation from 1904. the area is Herkimer county new york..the letter is postmarked Mohawk and has a back stamp postmark of Cedarville,N.Y. which no longer exists..mail for that area is now handled by the Illion,N.Y. post office. thought I would show it here..i will list it on ebay !

If you're interested in learning something of the Father of the Bride, George W. Getman, checkout this link:

Reference to Mrs. Pearl Skinner, confirms that she was the daughter of George W. Getman.

Jacob W. Skinner (1881-1948), was later known as Reverend Jacob W. Skinner and was a pastor at a local Methodist Church. Some newspaper articles suggest that "Fern Cliff, NY" was the Pastor's residence:

Wt1 I was thinking of asking your assistance...my wife did find the grave sites ..but we had nothing on Fern Cliff..there is a Ferncliff in our area in Rhinebeck that was a large estate and is now a nursing home but we could not find one in the Herkimer area !

Very nice package philb. I have to agree it's always a bonus when the contents are included and they are something special.
And of course, wt1 never fails to impress with his research.

Here's a wedding invitation I found in an envelope with a SC#406 (I believe - perf 12) postmarked Carlisle PA December 15, 1913 (just south of you, I_Love_Stamps, and only a couple of days off your birthday too!), complete with tissue insert and return envelope.

The return envelope is unused, so I assume the Rutherfords did not attend the wedding. But considering it was sent on December 15 and the wedding was on December 30, I'm not surprised.

William McCune, as noted in the previous scanned wedding invitation, was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity:

Quote:

Born at Oakville, Pa., February 6, 1888. Son of Samuel Brady and
Mary (Duncan) McCune. Teacher. Married, December 30, 1913,
Mary Elva Green.
