I have been looking at a what appears to be a very clean cover with an 1869 Scott 112 postmarked in my hometown. The cover is plain on the front with an embossed back with a small color cameo of a horse drawn wagon. It would be a great addition to my hometown cancel collection. However, I just looked because it is very pricey at $282.00 (was $300.00). But the stamp is, in my judgement. has VF centering and no missing perfs as far as I can tell.. The stamp is a little more than 180 degrees upside down on the cover. Does anyone have any idea if this is the ballpark for a fair selling price?

I took a screen shot of just the stamp, if that helps any.

There are far too many variables to tell just by the stamp; the price is based on all markings on the cover (front & back); scarcity of the town/state; overall structure of the cover (chewed, shortened, stained); cameo's seem to bring a premium. Another thing to look at it is "who" the cover is addressed to and if there is a historical value -- especially as it relates to i.e.: Confederate, notable, figures.

Back to our carrier and drop-letter controversy of last week. I assume the postage is simply "one cent" -- is it a drop letter? What city are we talking about? Could we see the entire cover at 300dpi?

As per request, here you are. I appreciate the help.

I went back to the site and took a screen shot of the cover. My mistake: the embossed part is not on the cover, rather a valentine enclosure. Sorry.
eBay seller is Northstamp aka Northland International Trading LLC

No photo of back is on the site.

Good question stallzer. Not $282. I have this exact cancel already but not in blue. I would only consider the cover if (a really big if) it were actually a good deal. The date is my daughter's birthday, so that caught my eye. But I also noted on the sellers store that everything he has is high priced. Very nice covers but high. I am fishing for information to add to my knowledge of classic covers so I won't pay too much nor miss one only because I think it is too high a price when it actually would be a fair price.

nice early Valentine and it appears in good condition. I find Northland International overpriced on everything. They will normally take a counter-offer of 15-20% off asking price. Make an offer and they will come back with a price. If you can live with that -- it is up to you. Even at 20%-off the price is a bit salty. However, it's hard to put a price on a gift to your daughter -- it would be hard for me to do for my own granddaughter. It's a Gift - It's a Valentine. You only live once!

I first noticed this cover about 8-10 months ago which cause me to believe I am not the only one who thinks the price is too high. The cds is not a clear strike which should call for a much lower price, I'd think..

I won't weigh in on the cover that you're asking about -- just wanted to make sure that you were aware of this listing for the York allegorical figure postmark on an 1827 stampless folded letter. Richard Frajola is offering it and it comes with a PF cert.

Yes, thanks for thinking of me. I saw it early this week and I am watching it for the moment. Very clear and complete cancel. I'd love to have it; we'll see.
