OK, It was brought to my attention last evening that a possible "pink" stamp(s) may be hiding in plain sight in my humble little collection. I am highly skeptical however weirder have happened right? OK, I scanned all m #65 and "cousins" for comparison. Nothing has been done to any of the images and are scanner fresh this morning (Feb. 12, 2013) and uploaded directly to Photo Bucket for links to post. Now The cover that was pointed out to me is the one from the St. Nicholas Hotel and sports a New York cancellation (circle of wedges?). Take a look and see if you can see what my Wife and Daughter see? Also, if it's no trouble, please state why this has a "snowballs chance" or is "right out". I just want to put this to bed but I admit they do indeed appear pink, almost purple-ish next to the others so that's why we're here.

Thank you much.

All 65's in my world. Unless there is a Grill ? You'll need a good scan of a Pink to compare to since Pink is a tint of Red.

Well, I do not have one to compare them too. I swear though besides looking for all the world pink they also have a purple-ish hue to it too, could be described as a "visual after-taste".
Do you think it would be worth a shot sending it out to a (forum recommended) place for an I.D. and if all legit, a Cert. (and to quell my curiosity)

yeah I can see it now. I didn't think it was a pigeon blood but more of the rose end of the spectrum in that light. I still say some variant of pink. It's just too pink looking to not be in some form or fashion weather it be from fading/atmospherically or, by intention, the ink. I don't have my hopes up but more my curiosity than anything.

I wish that these scans could show you how they leap off the page screaming "look at me!". I have suspected I for quite some time but the fear of being reamed kept me from saying anything. I believe I may send it out and have an expert look at them in hand and get an opinion either way. I totally believe you and absolutely trust and respect your judgement however, I know that I just cant show exactly what I'm seeing 100% to you. (edit->) Having said that however, I'll come up wit a way to show how they look super pink against anything that I personally have. If you could see that then you would know what I mean.

Yeah I know that this subject is fraught with disappointment and (thankfully) I don't need any sort of pay-day but all I can say is it looks pink compared to the rest of mine is all. Maybe I'll just pass it down and let the kids fight over it later...ha-ha

Here is a picture taken with MACRO settings on a FUJI FINEPIX S700. I know it don't prove my point or show anything particularly askew but I'll share them anyways-

A rose by any other name is still a rose??? Sorry that was tacky. By no means am I a scholar of this but I believe there is about every adjective ______ Rose shade you can imagine. Dull, bright, brown, red, dirty, .......... all still rose. Theres been mention before of a bluish violet hue that can be really only be seen in hand and I've also seen specialist listings of super high res scans that show traces of red (magenta) in certain locations. Really need a certified copy in hand to compare. Even your close up image shows 2 shades due to the camera- the right looks lighter than the left and more pinkish so it is super hard to tell.

Sorry Jeff, but I'm in agreement with Stallzer.....all #65.
If you really want a pink, you might look for covers dated '61. They're out there, sometimes very reasonably priced on eBay, and even with a 64b, at least you'd have a reference.

I'm going to email you privately.......look for it.

Ray

OK it's not so much that I think It's pink but rather the paper seems different than the other #65's. It seems to be a hard white paper. What is it or am I just losing it...lol

What do you make of this cover?:

I can't help you with the ID of these stamps, every one of these I get look pink to me. I like that Levant postmark though, its about 5 miles from me. I am surprised they had a post office back then. Levant could be described a sleepy little town.
