I'm new here so this may be a stupid question. There seems to be very few members of the site. This surprises me because it is one of the best looking, professionally run forum sites I've been on. Has there been any effort (or money) to advertise in Linn's or elsewhere?

My bass fishing site has over 5000 members and collects donations to support the site. I'd be willing to give here if it would spread the word.

Hello laswabbie,

Thank you for the kind words!

I agree it is time to boost membership with some advertising!

A classified ad will appear in Linn's February 18 thru May 12 issues under the #1010 ANNOUNCEMENTS section. Wording is as follows:

JOIN THE online community of stamp collectors! Stamps, covers, postal history and post cards! U.S. and worldwide! Beginners to advanced! www.stampcommunity.org

The Feb. 11 issue of Linn's is online now, so the ad will appear in the next issue. Also we will have a one-liner URL ad in the classified ad section of the American Philatelist magazine, running for one year starting with the March issue.

That's Great! I know I'm new here, but I have high hopes for this site based on my experience with the BBC fishing site I'm on now. BTW, I have over 4000 posts on the BBC.

I'm looking forward to having hundreds of kindred spirits on here!!

A great question and discussion. I am very new to the forum. I have two suggestions. First talk about the forum to other collectors, and two if you use Facebook make sure you like the forum's page. Every time a new topic is posted it appears on my Facebook page. I have personally shared the value of this forum with fellow collectors.
I hope that the ads mentioned are fruitful, but the best way to promote something like this is with a personal endorsement.
How about we all commit to mentioning the forum to at least one non-member every week.

Most people stumble here doing a google search this site has a wealth of info, many people visit and read the forum some even register as members others get right involved off the get go. stick around the guys and gals here are a soild bunch.
As for a facebook page it just be something else for the mods to look after. They do a great job for free all they get is some donations from members holding donation auctions and by members becoming supporters

I am not poking fun gentlemen, but I find this site informative and interesting.
Left face book years ago, as I could not say the same for that.
