I have had this problem before and it was discussed if my memory serves me well.
However, it doesn't serve me well enough to remember how I fixed it !

The SCF pages to not fit onto my screen as of this morning and I have a bottom scroll bar !
How do I get it back to like it was yesterday ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Changing the zoom level doesn't help.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have also run into this problem very recently. It used to be if there was an extra wide picture, the entire thread page would be stretched to the right and you had to use the scroll bars. Now, it is happening even if there are no pics (just like this thread).

Hmmm, I'm using Firefox, and lowering the zoom level using Ctrl and "-" key enough times will make the window fit with no horizontal scroll bars. Of course, the font also gets smaller.

OK, I see 1847bill posted while I was still typing. Yes, try his suggestion if you haven't already.

But what KHJ said was true. It just started happening in the last day or two. To fix it with the ctrl-minus technique does make the text smaller as well, which is not helpful for these eyes.

Some setting changed within the last day or so. Can it be changed back, please?

Many versions ago, there used to be a setting in FF where you could override the website size settings and allow FF to resize the windows based on your viewable width. I can no longer find that option in the last half dozen or so versions of FF, so maybe it is no longer available? But it would work great on exactly this type of problem (or course, by over-riding the website size/font settings, other things might look strange).

That just changes the zoom level which is not helping.

But I'll keep trying.....if only I could remember......

I managed to get the zoom level to 120% which is still slightly small for me [it was 125%], but I don't need the scroll bar [even though it's still there].
However, writing this is making me feel funny so I may not keep it for long.

If anyone else has any ideas on what to do...please post !

To summarize, CTRL+PLUS and MINUS zoom in and out; CTRL+ZERO returns to the default view.

However, to take your question in a slightly different direction, I sometimes encounter a thread that is too wide for my display. Not often, just once in a while.

I thought it might have something to do with people typing a long paragraph without hitting the Enter key. Or maybe a copy/paste with no line break in it. Either my browser or the forum doesn't auto-wrap or resize correctly.

The same thing happens once in a while when a large image loads. The page width seems to default to the width of the image. After the image loads, the board re-sizes the image, but the text doesn't 're-wrap' to the narrower dimensions.

Anyway....

londonbus1 - what version of Internet Explorer are you on?
I am IE10.
Try doing this.
1. use ctrl+ or ctrl- ctrl-0 to get screen back to 100%
2. open tools (looks like wheel probably in upper right corner or use alt-x)
3. click on zoom
4. click on one of the percentages (do NOT use ctrl+ or ctrl-) I can go to 150% before I get the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom

Hi Don

I have the same problem as Londonbus. Over the past few days the screen got wider.

I do not know about Londonbus but I am on XP and Explorer 8 (last one that is applicable to XP).

By the way, I have not changed my screen resolution.

Jerry B

Well, there's one way to find out whether it is our computers or some new website coding/setting. I will start a new thread with only one phrase "test default width". It is short, and should not push anything beyond the right side of the window. If we are still getting horizontal scroll bars, then it is an issue with the default width set by the webpages.

OK, I posted the new thread.

http://goscf.com/t/32513

Something other than our posts are pushing the window off-screen and producing the horizontal scroll bars.

Hopefully admin will look into this, and see what is causing the default window size to stretch out so much.
