I have a packet of 25 different German commeratives for the first person who reponds with the correct answer to this question:

What is the name of the group of islands located in the South Pacific about equi-distant from Australia and South America whose postal affairs are handled by Fiji? Hint; think Bounty!

Is it the french Polynesia? And I'm confused about the contest... Is this a giveaway contest or a PIF?

It's a straight giveaway just for fun and there are no real rules except getting the right answer.

French Polynesia is not the answer I was looking for.

Pitcairn Island lies in the South Pacific about half way between Australia and South America. It consists of the island of Pitcairn and the three uninhabited islands named Henderson, Duicie, and Oeno. It was discovered by a seaman aboard HMS Swallow who named it for his father, Major Pitcairn.

Pitcairn was settled in 1790 by British mutineers from the ship Bounty, commanded by Capt. William Bligh. It was annexed as a British colony in 1838. Overpopulation forced removal of the settlement to Norfolk Island in 1856, but about 40 persons soon returned.

The descendants of First Mate Fletcher Christian, the 8 other mutineers, and the dozen or so Tahitians who accompanied them still inhabit the island, and, in addition to English, they speak a dialect that is a mixture of Tahitian and 18th-century English.

So I'm guessing cause of the Bounty Ship, the answer would be Pitcairn Island

JAB - I put your prize in the mail this morning. Knowing the U.S. Post Office it will reach you in 6 or 8 months unless it has to be delivered by kangaroo!

Hey, I thought it was funny!

Nope, no surprises. I just picked 25 commeratives from a period over 50 years or so. I think it will be a good introduction to German philately.
