Seeking Help With Subscribing Feature

I am trying to subscribe to more than just a single topic but cannot figure out how to do this.

In the forum help different levels of subscribing are described including being able to subscribe to an entire category or even on a forum wide level. I would like to subscribe to an entire category and the help states "Category Wide Subscription - You can subscribe to an entire Category, which will notify you if there was any posts made within any topic, within any forum, within that Category."

I noticed that you can do this on a few select categories such as the Buy/Sell/trade but not for the others. I have tried to understand how it works and have done some testing. I have been trying to access the subscription list page and pass it the correct parameters (for example pop_subscription.asp?SUBSCRIBE=S&MEMBER_ID=6020&LEVEL=CAT&CAT_ID=4&FORUM_ID=15); this does return that message that I have been subscribed and when I go to My Subscriptions I can see that it is listed. But I am not getting any email notices; I assume that my direct accessing of the link is not executing all the code needed on the server side.

Is there a reason that subscribing to an entire category is not support for them all? Can anyone help me get this done?

An admin will confirm, but I suspect only certain categories have subscriptions enabled by the admin.

It's not enabled everywhere. The reason is that sending emails is the single biggest thing that will bog down a forum. I'm quite surprised the forum software didn't lock your account for attempting to hack the URLs.

Please understand that there was no attempt to hack anything. I was simply trying to access the category subscription as it is described in the FAQs as noted below. I spent a fair amount of time searching help and old posts to see if I was missing something. I was actually doing this to help someone else who wanted this feature.


Can I be notified by e-mail when there are new posts?
Yes, the Subscription feature allows you to subscribe to the entire Board, individual Categories, Forums and/or Topics, depending on what the administrator of this site allows. You will receive an e-mail notifying you of a post that has been made to the Category/Forum/Topic that you have subscribed to. There are four levels of subscription:
- Board Wide Subscription
If you can subscribe to an entire Board, you'll get a notification for any posts made within all the forums inside that board.

- Category Wide Subscription
You can subscribe to an entire Category, which will notify you if there was any posts made within any topic, within any forum, within that Category.

- Forum Wide Subscription
If you don't want to subscribe to an entire Category, you can subscribe to a single forum. This will notify you of any posts made within any topic, within that forum.

- Topic Wide Subscription
More conveniently, you can subscribe to just an individual topic. You will be notified of any post made within that topic.
Each level of subscription is optional. The administrator can turn On/Off each level of subscription for each Category/Forum/Topic.

Now that you have explained that this board wide and other features mentioned in the FAQs are not available for the reasons you state I will stop trying to access them. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
