Hi all, I found a stack of about 100 of these philatelic covers from GB in my collection, given to me about 25 years ago. I really don't know anything about them. I collect mostly Canada so these look different. I am astonished by the variety of postmarks commemorating all kinds of local events.

Can anyone tell me more about these types of covers? I'm looking to get rid of them, but first want to know more about what I have here.

Thanks!

"variety of postmarks commemorating all kinds of local events."
As you already know these are special events handstamps. Some might be of more value than others. Railway collectors might go for the railway commemoration handstamps for instance.
Normally these would be sold on eBay for around 40p-50p each (IF they sell), sometimes in batches of four or five. Many collectors would be interested in their specific local handstamps. The stamps are usually common varieties but might be of interest to GB collectors wanting a decent circular cancellation on a stamp for soaking off.

Availability far outstrips demand for these items at the moment so they sell for pennies and as Scotzm says 'If they sell'.
The stamps are common and have little value as postally used examples as they are purely philatelic.

Just a reminder that all stamps are philatelic...hence the word philately
The handstamps were applied by hand and then posted to the addressee. All stamps done that way are used stamps. Still have not any value but some would make a nice addition to a set when soaked off paper.

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. I'm guessing I might be best off trying to sell the whole lot then.

Scotzm - the term "philatelic cover" describes an item for the purpose of creating a collectible, and not for "real-world" use. The term is used by the Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps to describe covers that are franked with out of period issues (such as what you might receive on mail from a dealer), and it notes that these covers are typically valued much less by collectors than in-period covers. At least that is how I understand it; not sure if it's the same worldwide.
