I have a weird habit. When I look at the "last 100" topics menu at the bottom of the main forum page, I typically right-click the topic I want to view and open in a new window, read and/or respond, then close that window - leaving me only with the original main forum page.

There are other ways of viewing, but this is the way I like to do it.

However, after opening and closing too many topics in their own windows, my login (seemingly) randomly expires, and I have to re-log. That is, I am writing a response to a topic, I click "post new reply", am redirected to login - and lose everything I just wrote!

This PC uses IE 8.0.6001. Upgrading to IE 9 or higher is not an option at his time.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Brian

Before you click "post new reply," copy your post so that if you have to log in again, you just have to paste it.

Before you are forced to re-login, you can click on the back arrow and recover your post (to make a copy). If you close the tab, you will lose the post you were typing.

I'm not sure why you are being timed out. I'm using Firefox and I do not have that problem. I stay logged in until I manually log out. Try clearing your browser cache/cookies -- of course, you will lose all your other automatic log-ins when clearing.

So far, I have tried clearing cache, deleting all temp files, checked security settings (this site is in my "trusted" zones) and restarted my computer multiple times without saving my work (j/k) - all with no change in results. Interestly, I have a similar setup on my laptop at home and have stayed logged on for months without issue!

I started copying the text some time ago - just in case - but don't always remember!

You can't recover your text by hitting the back arrow?
