As I sit in the waiting room of a hospital waiting for my wife to get out of surgery, I decided to get on SCF on my smart phone. I wonder - is there a mobl version of this site? What would it take to create one? Thanks!

Think along the same lines of "full screen" movies - "This movie has been modified to fit your tv screen ...".
Many websites are reformatted to accomodate small phone screens and reduced data content in consideration of service speed and/or data plans. The site worked on my Samsung w/ Android OS, but was too clumsy & slow for me to stay on for any length of time.
I was just curious what it would take to make an scf.mobl site - both time and cost.

Brian, its something that I play around with for a few days every now and then. It's not an easy task. I also have to think about keeping the revenue streams at least somewhat comparable on a mobile site. I'm not saying it will never happen, but not a priority right now either. |

I just turn my phone sideways. Seems to work pretty good. Input fields are still kinda small, by my GSIII expands them when I click to enter data. |

There are a couple of things that would make it resize correctly on a phone.
1. The layout is currently based on tables. If it was changed to floating div's, it would be fluid 2. Any fixed-width element has troubles resizing. e.g. The ads/images. On mobile, these would have to be replaced with mobile-ads instead of standard ads. (adsense has a few mobile sizes)
You can see the effect on a PC by re sizing the width of your windo smaller and smaller until the text starts cutting off.

I believe table was singular in the code, for this page. But if I recall correctly, it has only to do with object organization. I wouldn't want to have to write the code that moves the cells around. By the time I got done the whole thing would look like spaghetti!
Thanks for the work you guys do already!! |

As it is, my phone's screen gets overcrowded to the point that it's not very usable.
Barring a mobile friendly HTML version, Tapatalk compatibility would be GREAT. There are NO other philately sites listed in Tapatalk's directory. |
