Trivia Quiz

Ok! Bonnie & and I used to do this on stampoffers-chat.
We'd have trivia contests and give away a prize (+4.95 S&h),No, no,
the S&h thing is a joke. really, postpaid.
Anyway. 1st SCF Trivia Quiz Question.
In the movie "Star Trek IV; The Voyage Home"
the crew got the containment chamber and the water and the whales
on the ship and they were coming back to the future.Spock
had to do all the figuring (astrometrics, telemetrics, etc.,etc.,the
calculations) for the flight back. What Spock have to do that he didn't like doing?
1st person with the correct answer wins my
fish cover (how apropo)shown in the Fish topic.
And what's neat about it. The time of each answer is posted.

While at the Institute, Spock jumps into the whale tank and performs a Vulcan mind meld with one of the two whales, George and Gracie, and successfully explains the Enterprise crew's mission. Dr. Taylor is outraged by their actions, but later sympathizes with them as she runs into them while driving home from work. Spock's quirks amaze Dr. Taylor, such as blurting out the fact that the female whale is actually pregnant, something nobody outside the institute knows. Kirk and Taylor end up going out to dinner, and Kirk feels he has to reveal the truth about his identity — being from the 23rd century, working in space, etc. — to try and gain Dr. Taylor's cooperation in getting the whales, which were to be released back into the wild soon. She is skeptical at best and disbelieves Kirk's story.

was it becuase the whales were pregnant?

I now know it..Spock has to make a guess and was asked to make his best shot about his calculations on acceleration (acceleration was no longer a constant)...this kind of disturbed him as he knows the accuracy of his computations would make or break the return trip

I would have said he had to "guess" and did not have a 100% exact calcutation and answer. That would not compute into his Vulcan logic.

there should also be a consolation prize for this..just kidding

Best I can do is give John : Honorable mention. Great detail on the whale tank part. If I'd have ask the name of the
whales now, you probably would have won.
That scene was funny. Capt. Kirk says something about Spock making a guess and Spock is a little quizzical, and Dr. McCoy
explains that Capt. Kirk trusts his guess implicitly. Then Spock says, I'll try to make the best guess I can.
That is my favorite Star Trek movie. Will have another trivia Q on this one in the future.
