Apparently the domain name is still registered to Bob for a couple more months (or longer if he chooses to renew it). It's the hosting by Go Daddy that has expired.

Here I go bearing this dead horse again...Do we know if the domain name is registered to Bob, or if it may actually belong to the hosting company (I believe that is GoDaddy??) Often if you go through a hosting company to obtain a domain name it winds up belonging to THEM and not to you! This may make it much more difficult to change to a new hosting company, as the original host company may or may not allow the domain to be moved. Might this be the problem?

Having previously registered domain names through Go Daddy and subsequently moving them to another registrar, I'm pretty sure the domain is registered to Bob Allen or whoever who originally registered it.

As far as protecting Scott numbers via copyright, again, see the details of the Feist case. If/when someone decides to go up against Amos on Scott numbers, Feist will figure in to it.

But... we have no evidence that Amos has threatened Allen, given the presence of the notice on his site.

Bringing this whole complex/convoluted situation
back down to basics... ponder the following...

Ok... we know from evidenced in this discussion that Amos
(appears to be) permission/license friendly... and, given
the fact that prior to the warnings to Bob Allen a few years
ago, the structure and use of Scott numbers has apparently
stayed the same during the licensing period, then logic would
dictate that (if) Amos had anything to do with the current state
of affairs with regards to 1847, then the numbering system is
presumably not likely the cause of the present issue...

Given the in-depth information 1847 provides (and possibly NEW)
data which might have been added subsequent to the licensing,
it is entirely plausible that the current issue (if by Amos)
could be the widespread use (and growth) of 1847, as either a
perceived current or future threat to Amos in terms of loss of
catalog sales with 1847 (and other possible sites) representing
reasonable substitutes for data contained within their catalog...

Opinions, analysis, please...

One thing I noticed after I discovered the 1847usa website (around 2011 IIRC) was it had no listings for anything 1971 and later. I wound up buying a copy of Warman's US Field Guide so I had something to look those up.

I will miss the 1847usa site as it had interesting info. I'd also spend time looking at the various older stamp designs.

Hi Everyone,

I used to use the 1847usa.com site frequently to help ID my USA stamps. It was an awesome site!! I had been away from my stamps for awhile (year +) and did not even know the site was in question. I think it is back on line with a new host:

Hopefully this helps.
