For some reason I've always loved the California state documentary stamps of 1865 and Nevada of 1865-73. This lot just came in. I pick them up whenever I see them on eBay for $1 - $5 each. Sometimes I get lucky and find several at once in a lot. I've found a couple of dozen of each in various denominations. The California cancels are comptrollers initials: G.O. = George Oulten, 1863-67, and R.W. = Robert Watt 1867-71. The stamps came imperforate, rouletted & in circular die cut. Imperforate is the most common. A listing can be found in the 1910 United States State Revenue Stamps handbook on archive.org. just google handbookchecklis00bart.pdf and you will find it. I would love to find some of these on piece since we lived in northern California. Does anyone have anything?

I also very interested in the Nevada State Revenue Stamps. Guess it goes with being born in Nevada, worked in Nevada, now fully retired and living in a small town in Nevada.

I find the early Nevada revenue a challenge, but keep looking and learning everything I can about them.

What research have you undertaken in regards to the Nevada early revenue stamps.

Dave

A few of the Nevada state revenues were preprinted on checks along with the US revenues. They are listed in the Scott Catalog as Revenue Stamped Paper (RN). This is an example of RN-B16a.

Hi Dave-

there was this thread earlier, wt1 dug up a Meekels article:

The best resource I've found is here, I based my album pages off Michael Mahler's work:

I really need to buy the current SRS catalog.

Do you have pages for your Nevada stamps? I've made them, you can get them here:
