Always Order From The USPS Over The Phone, Never The Website

This has happened to me twice now: I fill my cart on the USPS website, enter my card information, and hit the button to purchase. The charge is authorized and a hold placed on the funds, but my cart remains full and the order is not processed. When I contact the USPS, they say "oh, it's just a hold, it will fall off in a few days".

Which it indeed does. But in the mean time, I've lost access to over $100 worth of funds on my debit card for 5 - 7 days. This does not happen when ordering over the telephone.

So, my advice: fill your cart on the website so that you have all the SKUs and quantities in front of you, then call 1-800-STAMP-24 and give your order over the phone.

(Why did I let this happen to me twice, and not learn my lesson after the first time? Really good question.)

All of my debit cards are DOA (Destroyed On Arrival), a habit I formed back when credit cards were protected by those do-nothing, good-for-nothing, self-serving, self-dealing, useless career politicians in Congress (cardholder liability in the event of theft/loss was limited by law to U$D 50), while debit cards (the new-fangled thing the banks wanted you to use) came sans protection.

I notice that one of my banks is now promising a zero-loss policy on its debit cards, but if I can still hold a grudge about Bataan, I can still shred the incoming debit cards.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Nope, just tried that, too:

Something is very broken on their site right now. (Yes, I have successfully ordered stamps to that address with that card before.)

You know, I just realized, I use the USPS eBay site. Is that different than what you are using?

Uhh...no, I think you meant yes. No? Or, you are answering a question that was not asked. To the question asked, yes, the eBay site is different than the usps.com site. But only on the front end. I think the orders get filled from the same fulfillment center. If I'm wrong about that, someone correct me.

I've ordered quite often from the usps website (not the eBay store, but https://store.usps.com ), but have never paid attention to debit holds. I imagine that sometimes I've used debit, and sometimes credit. Just me, but when I have to worry about a $100 hold (rare, but not unheard of), I've got more important things to be concerned about than to be ordering stamps.
