Welcome LauraJayne to the Stamp Community Forum.

You can get a lot of help here, but you need to provide a few more details such as what you want to collect - country, new or used, topical issues (like animals, trains, flowers, etc.)regular stamps or "back of book" stuff such as post cards, revenue stamps, etc.

How do you intend to collect them... keep them loose, put them in an album (if so which one), make your own stamp collection and pages, etc.

Free stamps are typically easy to get from your local businesses. Ask them to save the stamps they get off their daily mail. Then stop by once a week or so and pick up what they have saved for you.

Once you have your collection started, put some images of the collection on this forum.
