Guatemala issued 4 new stamps in December 2008 and January 2009..they consisted of 2 Christmas stamps issued December 2nd, a stamp of the statue of the Virin of the Immaculate Conception issued December 16 and one for the 250th Anniversary of the consecration of the Basilica of Esquipulas issued January 3, 2009. These stamps were printed in quantities of 50 thousand stamps ! Thats not a lot of stamps folks..and I imagine some of those will be destroyed when not sold..i collect modern Guatemala in a haphazard way..they send a couple each issue on the outer cover of El Quetzal..i do not soak these off but put the entire cover in a protective plastic page and save them that way...

Phil:

I did not realise that El Quetzal is posted from Guatemala. Neat.

My Ox Cart (Journal of the Society of costa Rica Collectors) is posted from the United States... but they do use stamps to mail out the quarterly publication.

The El Q cover is almost worth the subscription price all by itself. They do a superb job with it.

Three more issues have come out since Jan 3:
Jan 12, 2009 50th Anniversary of the National Marine Defense Q1.00
Feb 6, 2009 National Celebrations (UPAEP 2008) Q0.50 / 2.00 / 3.00 / 5.00 and souvenir sheet Q 8.00
Apr 14, 2009 Typical Costumes of Guatemala Q0.50/1.00/2.00/3.00/4.00/6.00/8.00/Souvenir Sheet Q10.00

The above comes from ISGC's website but there is a mistake or a missing stamp from the Typical Costumes set. I have a Q5.00 I picked up at the PO last week but there is no Q5.00 listed on the site.
